L.I.T. History

Leaders In Training (L.I.T.) was founded by Dr. Clint May in the summer of 2002. This ministry is centered on the discipleship of children and empowering them for ministry in the church and on mission.

On May 8, 2002, Clint became the Children’s Minister at Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

That summer was wide open for him to follow God’s leading to disciple and train preteens (5th-6th graders) for ministry and missions. (The picture to the right is Clint's first L.I.T. group in Fort Worth, Texas)

As Clint took this ministry path of teaching spiritual disciplines and equipping children for ministry using their spiritual gifts, he witnessed a transformation in the lives of children as they learned how to walk daily with Christ.

Clint also witnessed the children’s ability to effectively share the Gospel and lead children to Christ that summer.Picture3

First Official Mission Trip
In the summer of 2004, Clint took 35 preteens and adults from Fort Worth on a mission trip to Corpus Christi, Texas.
While on the trip, preteens were trained and released in local apartments to
• lead worship,
• teach evangelistic Bible studies,
• teach crafts, and
• counsel lost children.

During this trip, God moved powerfully in and through the lives of the preteens. They led 27 children and students to Christ!

L.I.T. Ministries has sponsored 36 mission trips in seven states since 2004.2012 06 29 20.22.45 1 2019 03 07 18 15 54 UTC
• More than 3,700 preteens and students have reached thousands of children and their families with the Gospel.
• They have led at least 1,500 children to Christ.
• About 50 churches have taken part in the mission trips.

It was in the summer of 2002 that Clint began writing and developing personal devotionals to disciple preteens in his church. He also wrote leadership materials that taught his leaders how to disciple children.

The Expansion of Our Discipleship Vision to Other Churches
In 2006, other churches started requesting discipleship materials. They showed interest in beginning L.I.T. and had a desire to experience the joy of discipling children.

L.I.T. has now published more than 72 student devotional books, leader guides, and evangelistic tools for discipling children, preteens, and students. The materials have been translated into multiple languages and are being used internationally.

• This handbook has been used to train more than 5,000 leaders worldwide today in about 15 countries.
• One of our trained leaders has trained at least 1,700 leaders in six countries in Africa.
• The handbook has been translated into ten languages.
