ETNG Fall Retreat - Branson, Missouri
About 15 years ago, I started a new children’s pastor position at a church in Fort Worth, Texas. When I arrived at the church in late spring, I was told, “Oh, by the way, we don’t have anything planned for the children this summer, so you will have to come up with something.” Well, it worked out perfectly! The Lord had placed on my heart to try something new that summer. After attending many CPC and INCM conferences, I heard amazing stories of engaging children in ministry. That summer, I embarked on a new journey to partner with families to teach children spiritual disciplines and train them for ministry in the church and on mission. What I didn’t expect that summer was the transformation that I witnessed right before my eyes. The ministry we began was called preteen L.I.T. (Leaders In Training). About five weeks into the summer, I took a group of preteens that we had trained to a local apartment complex to lead a backyard Bible club. We also trained them to share the Gospel with lost children. They led songs, did puppet skits, taught crafts, and prayed with the kids. I personally did the teaching at this time. On Wednesday of that week, I gave an invitation, and three children came forward. I let three of our 6th graders counsel with them. For the first time, I witnessed three preteens sitting down and leading all three of the children to Christ. I had my doubts, so I sat down with all three of the kids, one-on-one. After talking with them, I realized that they knew exactly what they had done. They had accepted Christ as Savior, and they were led to Him by kids—6th graders!
That day was the beginning of an amazing journey for me. Since then, we have taken thousands of preteens on mission trips in various states. They now do all of the teaching and everything involved with the trips while adults stand in amazement at how the kids can be used by God. We have seen many preteens reach numerous people with the Good News of Christ. Through this journey in my church, we went a step further in our discipleship to engage children in teaching and in using their gifts to serve in our church. Several of our kids started teaching in the 5th grade and continue to do so today as college students.
Let us help you gain a fresh vision for your church and show you how to cast the vision to your church.
We have planned a schedule that will allow you time after the daily training to visit the shops in Branson as well as see some of their shows. Branson Landing is 5 minutes from the church where the training will be held. The trees in the mountains surrounding the areas will be beautiful with their fall colors. For more information about Branson click here.
We will also give you ample time to process what you have learned and to seek the Lord for clear vision for your ministry. You will hear different speakers who have many years of experience implementing this philosophy of ministry in their churches. On the last day of the conference, we will work with you in setting a timeline to successfully plan your first year.
