The Mission Trip Changed the Kids’ Lives in a Powerful Way!
We had a family in which the younger brother was asking questions about spiritual things/salvation. Mom was answering questions, but when it got to the point where the boy wanted to accept Christ, she invited her daughter in. Her daughter had attended the mission trip. She got her Bible and counseling card and led her brother to Christ!
Our 5th & 6th graders were praying the P.R.A.Y. prayer, and one of our gals (who went on the mission trip) has been changed. During the "Ask", she prayed that God would give her opportunities to share about Jesus with her friends at school that week.
The mission trip changed the kids in a powerful way, and we are STILL seeing the effects of it. We have a new crop, and we are excited to see our "newbies" learn and grow from our "experienced" L.I.T.s! (Brandi Melvin is the Children’s Minister at Southgate Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri.)
Dunamis Church in Piedras Negras to Begin L.I.T.
We just returned from Piedras Negras, Mexico, last week. We had a wonderful trip, training and preparing Dunamis Church to launch the ministry this year. We have the first semester of the L.I.T. resources translated into Spanish so they are ready to move forward. Vine and Branches, led by Alex and Diana Aburto, will be working through their library and afterschool ministry to disciple and equip students for ministry. We are excited to see what the Lord does in Piedras Negras. Pray for God’s blessings and grace as they move forward.
Bridge Luncheon Update
The church is facing major problems with 50 percent of students leaving the faith by the time they begin college. Of the 50 percent who return to church, 40 percent are apathetic Christians. It is believed that only 10 percent have been truly discipled and are devoted witnesses for Christ. Last month on September 28, Dr. Richard Ross and Dr. Clint May spoke at a luncheon sponsored by L.I.T. called the Bridge Luncheon. The purpose of the luncheon was to share with children and student ministers the need to partner together to bridge the gap between children and student ministry. We had 40 who attended our last event. We are scheduling our next luncheon on November 2 at Wedgwood Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. If you missed the first one, you can register online for the November 2 luncheon by clicking here.
What’s Next for L.I.T.?
It has been a busy month. We are making every effort to reach out to children’s ministers in the DFW area. In the process, the Lord continues to expand our territory internationally to Mexico and South Africa. I will have an updated report from Jaco and Johanessa in next month’s newsletter on what is happening in South Africa. We are blessed with a team of people who have taken the ministry to new levels. It is exciting to see what is in-store for the ministry in the months to come. I am having to learn to wait on the Lord and not run ahead of His desire for the ministry versus what I want. It is always tempting to be in a competitive mode in ministry, but this does not honor the Lord. As we wait on the Lord, it is a joy to watch Him work and then join Him there. I no longer say that we are going to focus on “such and such.” As soon as I do, the Lord reveals something new where He is working. Keep us in your prayers as we watch and wait.
You have heard me mention several times this year that this is our 15-year anniversary since the ministry began at Wedgwood Baptist Church in the summer of 2002. To celebrate, we will be hosting our “15-Year Anniversary Banquet” on November 9 at South Hills Baptist Church from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This will be a time of celebration and wonderful testimonies. Dr. Richard Ross will be sharing his heart during the banquet. Please make every effort to join us. It won’t be the same without you! RSVP.
We are still needing ten table sponsors for the event. If you would like to sponsor a table click here or would like more information on how you can partner with us click here.
Blessings,
Dr. Clint May
