Spiritual Disciplines of the Cross
There are good and bad habits learned in life. Spiritual disciplines are good habits for the purpose of living a godly life on Earth. “Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness” (1 Timothy 4:7b). Through the devotionals, children learn spiritual disciplines in order to develop their personal relationship with Christ. There are six key disciplines they learn:
Lordship (Jesus is Lord): Children learn to make Christ Lord of their lives daily (Luke 9:23). Through surrender, they live a life that is pleasing to God (Romans 12:1).
God's Word (Read the Bible): They learn to read, study, memorize, and meditate on Scripture daily and are given practical guidance on how to apply it to their lives. (Psalm 119:11, James 1:22)
Prayer (Talk with God): The children learn to pray daily and intercede for family, friends, others, and the world. (Jeremiah 33:3) They also learn about spiritual warfare and how to protect themselves from the enemy’s attacks. (Ephesians 6:10-18, 2 Corinthians 10:3-4)
Evangelism (Tell Others): They are trained, equipped, and released to share their faith in Christ with others. (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8)
Servanthood (Gifts and Ministry): They discover their spiritual gifts and learn how to use them in ministry.
Life of Obedience: As the children put the first five spiritual disciplines into practice, they learn how to live a life of obedience to Christ by following and obeying His Word. (John 14:15)
