Kids Ministry: Let Us Run With Endurance The Race That is Set Before Us
Last week I asked you to pray for Vicki and me. During times of questioning, I find it comforting to go back to my roots in ministry. So, on Wednesday, I drove to Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. I spent a while reminiscing over the time spent there as I walked through some of the hallways of the school. I am blessed to have received much of my training there.
From there, I drove to Wedgwood Baptist Church and reminisced about what the Lord did there over the course of 12 years that turned my life upside down. I even visited room 110C, the room in which L.I.T. was birthed. I am forever grateful for the joy and trials I went through as the Lord provided the vision of L.I.T. It frustrated some folks, but others welcomed the idea with open arms.
It was there on April 12, 2014, that the Lord called me to trust Him and step down as their children’s pastor. That step of faith challenged Vicki and me to the core. It did not make sense. The money was not there. We weren’t fully sure what the next step was, but we knew that if we did not do it, we would be disobeying the Lord. The Lord has taken care of our every need since we made this decision.
The first year, I was somewhat depressed. I missed working with kids. I missed seeing them worshipping and serving the Lord. I missed our retreats, camps, and mission trips. It took me a year to process through it.
Now, I am in a new phase of ministry. One of my joys of ministry today is hearing the many testimonies of young adults who went through L.I.T. at Wedgwood and numerous other churches. Their lives were set on a course of faith for life and deeply rooted in a passion to serve the Lord. Some are even called to full-time ministry. This came about from the investment of hundreds of people in the lives of these kids. You can read many of their testimonies on our website at www.leadersintraining.com.
Since I left full-time ministry as a children’s pastor, I have had the opportunity to invest in the lives of thousands of children’s pastors and leaders worldwide. I have trained many leaders who are now training other leaders. One of our leaders in Zambia has trained more pastors and leaders than I ever did in the U.S.
The Lord put Hebrews 12:1-3 on my heart this past Sunday:
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
My target, aim, and prize is Jesus Christ. My goal is to take as many children, students, and adults as possible with me on my journey there. I may be getting older, but it isn’t over. I am even more committed to finishing the race the Lord has set before me.
Blessings,
Dr. Clint May, President, L.I.T. Ministries
