Children Are Disciple Makers: You Need to Get Out of The Way

As I was looking down the children’s hallway at my church, I saw one of our kids, Renee, walking towards me with a girl I did not recognize.AdobeStock 88899287

She walked up to me and said, “Brother Clint, this is Jordan.

She accepted Christ last night.” I exclaimed, “Praise the Lord! Welcome to the family.”

As they walked away to their Bible study room, Renee’s mother walked up to me.

She said, “Clint, Renee has been leading a Bible study at our house for a year.

Jordan’s mother would not allow her to go to church, so Renee decided she would have a Bible study at our home for her.

Last night, Renee led her to Christ.” Renee was in 3rd grade at the time.

You might ask, “Is the Great Commission for all believers?”

The answer is—Yes!

The Great Commission is clear for all believers to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20); this includes children!

  1. Children are the most effective agents for reaching children in the 4 to 14 age bracket.[i]
  2. Approximately 70 percent of those who accept Christ today say their peers influenced them.[ii]
  3. Most people who trust in Christ do so between the ages of 4 and 14 years.[iii]

Knowing that they can effectively reach other children, they should be a part of the discipleship process.

We can train them and send them out on a mission for Jesus Christ.

Children are the mission field and the missionaries in that field.

It is a joy to train and release them to go out on a mission for Christ.

  • We are to equip children for ministry and release them to do ministry.
  • There are no spiritual height charts.
  • There are no age brackets.
  • The Holy Spirit is the determining factor when He draws them to Himself.
  • The only measuring rod is the Holy Spirit and what He can do in and through the life of a child or student.
