The Perfect Church For Kids?

The other day I walked into a church, and I was greeted by a child at the door.Christina FB

As I walked into the children’s building, I saw children and adults sitting at the check-in station.

Children working alongside adult mentors checking children into the children’s building.

As I walked down the hallway of the children’s wing, I saw younger children in classrooms enjoying their classes.

In those classrooms, older children and preteens were teaching the class along with their adult mentors.

I could see the children eating out of the hands of the older kids, taking in every word.

After Bible study, we went down the hallway to the children's worship center. I again was greeted at the door by a preteen.

As I went into the room, I looked to my side and saw two preteens sitting at the sound board.

They were watching with excitement for the service to begin.

As the service began, an older child went to the front with excitement and welcomed everyone and led the kids in prayer.

Right after that, the music started and some kids ran to the stage and led the rest of them in worship.

Their excitement was contagious.

You could see the confidence in their faces as they led the worship time.

After worship, a young man (preteen) walked up on stage, opened his Bible, and taught a message to the kids.

You could almost hear a pin drop as he nervously shared from God’s Word.

The adults in the room prayerfully supported the efforts of the preteens of the church as they wanted the kids to have ownership in the body of Christ.

This is my dream and passion—for you to understand that the Lord has a greater vision for the kids in your church than you could ever imagine.

Every part of this story is true because we have trained leaders who took to heart what they learned and then discipled and released the kids in their churches to minister.

How do I know this works, you might ask?

Well, this is something I have been doing for the past 22 years in churches just like yours.

You see, we have been robbed of the full potential of a believing child by embracing an education philosophy of ministry.

Believing children are gifted and empowered by the Holy Spirit for ministry.

Sadly, our usual model requires them to just sit and listen while adults teach them.

It is time to break free from this box and embrace the Lord’s heart for kids.

It is time to stop hindering them and start empowering them to serve and minister today.

We want them to know Christ and to find God’s purpose and plan for their lives to serve Him now.

My greatest joy as a children’s pastor was when I did just that.

Children’s ministry became challenging, but I saw children excel in their faith and grow exponentially as I moved to this model of ministry.

This is not a program but a process. It doesn’t happen overnight.

However, when you faithfully fight for the kids in your ministry and focus on discipling them and teaching them how to walk with the Master, equipping them and releasing them in ministry, you will see lasting fruit in their lives.

I know this because of the many young adults from my church and countless others who we trained as kids and are seeing the same fruit in their lives twelve to fourteen years later.
